Feria in Barrio Palermo

Posted by Cool Your Jets IV on March 8, 2011

Following several Gin & Tonics at the Bangalore Pub with our friend Kate, we headed to the Feria taking place in Barrio Palermo – a much bigger Feria than the one the previous night at Colegiales. Same format, marching bands banging many drums, and a dancing troupe of ladies.

To add a little more balance, the sausage buns were slighty better!

Super Bore 2011 (and Super Bowl 2011)

Posted by Cool Your Jets IV on February 7, 2011

Last night saw the gang head to Sugar Bar to watch the Super Bore 2011, which was taking place in Dallas, USA.

Both teams have a very good track record and it looked likely that this was going to be a tight game throughout with a narrow win for one of them. I thought that the Santander Bank had a particularly good advert – obviously they have a new product line coming out so if you’re in the market for a new bank you just might want to check them out.

My favourite advert by far, was the one advertising the local brew Quilmes – this ad was made on a beach – i’m assuming one in Brasil given the amount of scantily clad women taking part. Their look was fresh, young and vibrant, particularly compared to the more staid bank. They looked fit and no doubt could perform all day long.

The evening entertainment was and the game commenced. On the positive side, both were given equal billing as both adverts were played at least 25 times throughout the course of the evening, it was that tight. First up was Santander – they looked  good and had a strong presence though once Quilmes upped their game it was a one way street. Back and forth they went, it was end to end stuff though hats of Quimes who, fielding a very strong team of young ladies playing beach volleyball, narrowly won the game.

There was much jubilation amongst the watching fans who to a man (and woman) were all cheering on the Quilmes.

In other news, the Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31 – 25.

Horses for Course(s) and Birthday nights out!

Posted by Cool Your Jets IV on February 1, 2011

Yesterday saw the gang go horse racing at the Palermo Hipodromo, celebrating Bob’s birthday.

A thoroughly great evening ensued with everyone having a great time and the odd win or five! The race track is superb as are the stands – it’s also free to get in, I really recommend it as a night out though be warned, you cannot purchase alcohol there and I’m not sure if you can take your own supplies though I guess if you’re discreet you’ll be fine.

There were races every 30 minutes and placing a bet was straight forward – I literally picked a number and put $20 peso down – at one stage I was $250 peso’s up, though this was eclipsed by Thomas, who walked away with $460 pesos, every horse he picked won!

Simon’s (aka Tug’s,) are still running…

After a good couple of hours we left en-masse to a restaurant called ‘Kansas’ which overlooks the racetrack. It’s nice enough, all American fare, steaks, ribs, burgers etc. Unfortunately being such a large group saw us sat on two separate tables though following our meal we ended up at the bar drinking fernet cola before being ‘turfed’ out a little after 2am.

Skool, today, was very tough…
