Choose Life…

Posted by Cool Your Jets IV on April 2, 2011

We awoke early to what seemed a music concert happening next to the hostal! Looking out the window we could see the main square filling up with hundreds of people, flying flags and parading around. Not sure what was happening I quickly dressed, grabbed the camera and went along to see what was going on.

The square was bustling with hundreds of children from the local schools and surrounding areas. All had made a real effort; groups of kids covered in facepaint, costumes, hand-made posters – though I’m sure half of them were a little too young to know about Pro-Life. Mainly centered around the front of the Cathedral, there were various speeches by a couple of religious big-wigs and a compare, calling out the various names of schools, at which point that particular school on hearing their name would go crazy.

I got chatting to a guy, well he saw me taking photos and struck up a conversation. Apparently they have these ‘parades’ often and like to involve the children as whilst their parents are listening to the various speeches, they have their children to look upon – a kind of in-direct brainwashing!

It was a great morning and even though I was a little hungover, I was pleased to have gone along to check it out.

  1. That is pretty cool! I enjoy being treated to special happenings during travel.

Hope you guys continue enjoying Cuzco… I’m feeling slightly jealous, I only got to spend 2 days there, and it is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to!

    Guess I’ll have to return…

    • We love Cuzco – 2 days is way too short though it foes appear the norm, most people transit through en route to Machu Picchu. We’re here for three weeks and fully booked. Well that’s us offline for a few days- we’re off to MP and a couple of other places, lots of blogging comingup!
