Club Atlético Independiente (and Nottingham Forest)
Posted by Cool Your Jets IV on September 22, 2010
Whilst counting down the hours here at work, a little search brought up the following piece of history and whilst not of interest to everyone, it certainly appeals to me given it’s about my football team, the great Nottingham Forest Football Club. It seems there is another team out there (other than Arsenal) whom Forest are connected too by way of our playing strip – Forest gave Arsenal their colours back in 1895(!)
In 1905, Independiente were formed in the great city of Buenos Aires and shortly afterwards the mighty Forest toured both Argentina and Uruguay…
Following the tour, Independiente moved from their blue and white kit, and in honour of Forest they switched to the red of Nottingham Forest – a colour they still play in to this day!
I was thinking only the other day whether to take my Forest shirt with me to Buenos Aires and having found this article I will certainly go and watch a game, wearing the Garibaldi!
